I’ve heard of coping skills, but what is grounding?

Coping skills are day to day stress tools. Grounding tools are like coping skills, but turned up to 11.

A grounding skill is a more specific tool that you can use to interrupt your fight or flight response. It’s meant to help you back out of panic, dissociation, and heightened stress responses that are more than just average depression or anxiety.

Like coping skills, these are unique to you. What works for you won’t work for others, and that’s how it’s meant to work.

Therapy can help you discover what your tools are, and ways that you can have them at the ready should something difficult arise.
